Independence Square
Mustaqillik Maydoni, also known as Independence Square, is the main public square and one of the most important national symbols of Tashkent. The square represents the independence, unity, and modern development of Uzbekistan and serves as a central location for official ceremonies, national celebrations, and public events.
Originally established during the Soviet era, the square was later redesigned and renamed after Uzbekistan gained independence in 1991. Since then, it has become a symbol of the country’s sovereignty and national identity. The area combines historical monuments, modern architecture, and beautifully landscaped gardens, creating a peaceful and impressive atmosphere in the center of the city.
One of the main highlights of the square is the Independence Monument, featuring a globe with the map of Uzbekistan, symbolizing the country’s place in the world. Nearby stands the Monument of the Happy Mother, representing peace, family, and the future of the nation. The square is also known for its elegant fountains, green alleys, and ceremonial arches decorated with traditional Uzbek motifs.
Architecturally, Independence Square blends modern urban design with national artistic elements. Wide open spaces, marble structures, and carefully maintained gardens make it one of the most attractive public areas in Tashkent.
Today, Mustaqillik Maydoni is a popular destination for both locals and tourists. Visitors come here to relax, walk through the gardens, admire the monuments, and experience the modern spirit and national pride of Uzbekistan.
